Overview
The Beginner's Atlas is a mobile, modular art project that transforms public squares, libraries, and underused plazas into 'craft laboratories' for one to three days at a time. Each installation comprises five to seven open-air stations, each dedicated to a single lost technique.
At a basket-weaving station, for example, visitors find raw reed bundles pre-soaked and cut to length, a wooden jig shaped as a template, and a series of weight-sensitive floor pads. As they follow the implied sequence—laying warp, lifting weft, tucking ends—the pads sense foot pressure and trigger gentle audio cues: the sound of crackling fire for too-tight tension, bird song for a correct interlock. No written instructions, no screens. The body learns by doing, mistake by mistake.
A second station explores natural indigo dyeing: a shallow vat of fermenting dye, a bundle of white cotton, and a set of clamps and rubber bands. The station's surface is a heat-sensitive ceramic that changes color when the fabric is submerged at the right temperature, giving real-time feedback. A third station teaches pinch-pot clay forming with a turntable that vibrates when the walls get too thin.

Tech stack

Architecture
